Community Outreach

At The Bridge, we believe the time has come where we as the Church decide to look outside ourselves and begin to affect the community where there is need, loss, and often hopelessness. As receivers of God’s perfect love and now living examples of it, we are commanded to bring light where there is darkness, life where there is death, and love where there is emptiness. We must go beyond words and act as Jesus did and physically change our world.

“…let us not love merely in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth, in practice and in sincerity.” – 1 John 3:18

Shop with a Cop

In a partnership with the Rotary Club of Bixby, The Bridge is able to select from a list of at-risk children, as recommended by the proper agencies, and provide money to them to purchase Christmas gifts for their family members. The children shop with a Bixby police officer at Wal-Mart, providing an atmosphere for a positive relationship to begin where all previous contact has most likely been negative. The program was initiated by the Rotary Club in 2004.

Bixby BBQ ‘n Music – Kids Zone

What better way to connect with the community then during a festival! The Bridge has partnered with the Rotary Club by sending volunteers to the Kids Zone during the Bixby BBQ ‘n Music Festival. We will be responsible for preparing activities and supervising the children during the weekend’s events. This is a great introduction and first experience for the families we are called to reaching in this community.

Back-2-School Outreach

At impressionable ages, our kids often have to endure hardship that is not of their making. Those circumstances begin to shape a perspective of life that often creates feelings hopelessness and abandonment. Some children, due to a lack of resources, will walk onto school campuses this year without essential items like backpacks, pencils, and paper, and The Bridge wants to help. We will be collecting necessary items to distribute to the children of Bixby so they can begin to know what it is to feel loved and accepted. More details on how you can get involved this year will come as the school year approaches.

Easter Outreach

Jesus died so we could be reconciled with the Father and accepted as we are. With a desire to show the same love we’ve experienced, The Bridge chooses families from the Bixby School District to bless with food and gift certificates for clothing from Wal-Mart and Kohl’s. And what Easter morning is complete without small Easter baskets for each of the kids to enjoy. As we continue to show God’s love, the people of Bixby will begin to see hope they may have forgotten coming from the people at The Bridge.

Springfest Chili Cook-Off

The Bridge Church is proud to host SpringFest and Chili Cook-Off. The event’s activities include chili cook-off and tasting, a dessert competition, live music and more! This is another great way we connect with our community outside of the church walls. All proceeds from this community event go to support mission work in West Virginia and Cornwall, England, both of which are poverty-stricken areas of the world.
